Strong enough?

If you don't know what Crossfit is, don't worry about it. It's the sport of exercise. My personal stance is that exercise is NOT a sport. Football and swimming and softball and pole vault ARE sports. But, with that said, some of the individuals "competing" in the Crossfit Games are quite impressive.

Crossfit is all about conditioning. Period. That's how you win at crossfit. Just don't ever get tired and you stand a pretty good chance.. But check this out:

Do you think a sturdy strength foundation helps these numbers and drives a higher level of conditioning? Do you think a cleaning over 300 lbs is even romotely possible without a front squat that is far advanced of that? How about a 250 lbs snatch? Is it possible without a much stronger OH Squat?

Don't forget, Crossfit is conditioning.. Not a strength training program. Is strength a factor?

Don't forget about this either: These rules are NOT optional. Ever.

Enjoy.

    2. Boo. Come on, just a quick 15 minute Cindy to get us all pumped up and motivated or 150 burpees...watching Elisa do burpees is amazing.

  4. Also these individuals were pretty elite athletes in high school and college. They competed at a pretty high level so punishing themselves in this type of competition, while different is familiar to them. They know their bodies and know how to live in the 'pain zone.' They have high motors and exceptional work capacity.

They also have coaches to cue them on various exercises like gymnamstics and olympic lifting. They are taught how to climb ropes efficiently to. Yes there is a way to do it with out smoking your hands, arms and shoulders.

Some have families and run gyms but it's the ones that fit it 2 or 3+ workouts a day that tend to stay at the top of the leaderboard.

I think creating teams with a coach on each team would be even better.

    1. That's good perspective on what a "top 10" Crossfit athlete is. Many of the folks in BHIP are more than double the average ages, too.

    2. Translation: they spent many years with coaches who enforced the physiological rules of strength and conditioning during their athletic careers. They didn't just pick up barbells and realized how strong they magically were.

    3. Yes...good point. When you hear their stories, you learn their athletic backgrounds were pretty serious.
